Kent households could benefit from improved cleaning services

People living in rented accommodation in Kent may benefit from improved cleaning services provided by an organisation.

East Kent Housing is taking control of 18,000 properties across four areas in the county, Kent News reports.

Leaseholders and tenants in Dover, Canterbury, Thanet and Shepway are set to be affected by the changes.

The local councils in each region will still oversee the welfare of people living in the towns and East Kent Housing must pledge to deploy good cleaning companies to maintain the homes.

Cutting grass and following up on repair requests will be two of the tasks facing the organisation, as well as working with police on clamping down on anti-social behaviour.

It is unclear at this stage if the body will have to provide End of Tenancy Cleaning should people decide to move on.

Interim managing director of East Kent Housing Brendan Ryan told the publication: “Joining the four councils together also means we can make savings that we can then reinvest back into council housing in each area.”

Elsewhere, the Wandsworth Guardian reports that councillors in the region are devising ways to improve waste disposal and street cleaning.
