FSA shames restaurants in need of a cleaning company

A number of eateries in Lancashire may soon be employing the services of a commercial cleaning firm after being named and shamed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for their appalling star ratings.

Local newspaper the Lancashire Evening Post reported that the FSA has rated some 5,000 takeaways, restaurants and other outlets in the county and given them a rating out of five stars – however, 36 scored the lowest mark possible, zero stars.

These included “upmarket” Italian eatery Cafe Bar on Winckley Street, Curry Cottage on New Hall Lane and Sando’s on Church Street, all of which are in Preston.

Commenting on the ratings, council cabinet member for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities at South Ribble, Phil Smith, said: “It’s really important that our restaurants, takeaways, supermarkets and hotels are managed to the best standards of hygiene and our officers work closely with them to ensure this is the case.”

Customers can check the FSA rating of an establishment – to see if it is in need of a Spring clean before a visit – on the group’s website, where they can search by town, postcode or eatery name.
