An expert has highlighted a few golden tips for Domestic Cleaners looking to improve the appearance of their fireplaces.
Jaime Derringer, of DIY Life, said the autumn is the perfect time for house cleaners to start preparing their fireplaces for the winter months, and suggested that they begin this process by checking all the electrical components to ensure that they are all in good working order.
Next, they should start dusting the interior and remove any stray particles or debris that could become a fire hazard. This can be done using a cloth or a vacuum cleaner if necessary.
“If your fireplace has brass accents, clean those with soap and water or something acidic like a vinegar-and-salt mixture – you can even try mild Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce,” Ms Derringer commented.
“Clean both sides of the glass enclosure with a glass cleaner of your choice and dust electrical components gently.”
For old-fashioned wood burning fireplaces, a scrubbing brush should be used to remove dirt and soot with the use of a bucket full of soapy water.
Ms Derringer also suggested using a mixture of trisodium phosphate and water, which is especially good for stubborn and hard-to-shift stains.
