Domestic cleaning London: Floor cleaning tips revealed

An expert has advised domestic cleaners on the best way to clean different types of floors around the home.

In an article for Women24.com, Janice Anderssen, the publication’s decor and DIY expert, shares with readers a number of valuable domestic cleaning tips.

When it comes to ceramic-tile floors, she says that they can be cleaned easily using nothing but warm water.

However, the expert advises that the floor is vacuumed or swept beforehand to remove any loose soil or grit.

In addition, she says to never use a sponge mop to clean ceramic-tile floors.

“It will pull the dirt right into the grout tracks,” she writes. “This makes the floor more difficult to clean.”

Instead, a micro-fibre mop is best as it will pick up all the dirt that a sponge mop leaves behind.

Hardwood floors, on the other hand, can be cleaned using boiling water and two teabags.

“The tannic acid in tea creates a beautiful shine for hardwood floors. Let two teabags steep in the boiling water for a few minutes. Pour the tea into a bucket. Take a soft cloth and wring it out in the tea,” says Ms Anderssen.

It follows recent advice from US website Macon.com, which recommended cleaning floors last as dust from cleaning other parts of the room will settle on them.
