Domestic Cleaners could use steam cleaning to help save water and cut down on the use of cleaning chemicals, it has been suggested.
A car-cleaning business in Stockton has highlighted the benefits of the technique after switching to a pressurised steam system from traditional methods of water and cleaning products.
Bespoke Valet and Detailing, which is based at David Lloyd health and fitness club, estimates that by using the system it is saving enough water each year to fill a swimming pool.
“The average hand car wash uses between 60 and 160 litres of water – our steam system uses only two litres for a standard-sized car, saving enough water in a year to fill the swimming pool here at David Lloyd,” said Steven Pigott, who runs Bespoke.
“A busy car wash can get through 2.5 million litres of water a year and all that waste water contains polluting chemicals. Our system, on the other hand, does not require detergents,” he added.
Although used for car cleaning in this case, steam cleaning systems can be useful in a variety of aspects of domestic cleaning, including carpets, kitchens and bathrooms.
