Removing clutter as part of a Domestic Cleaning drive can be a positive step

Removing clutter as part of a Domestic Cleaning drive can be a positive step towards avoiding potentially dangerous falls within the home.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents representative Jo Bullock believes this is particularly important advice for elderly people.

Falls are the most common cause of death among citizens of a certain age and it is therefore important to assess where the greatest tripping hazards lie within an abode.

“It might be carpet that is very, very worn or there are loose fitting rugs; you might have a lot of clutter around,” Ms Bullock commented.

Families who employ domestic cleaners to spruce up the home of an ageing relative may want to ensure that exterior areas are also safe.

Pathways that are covered in moss could be an accident waiting to happen, while loose paving slabs are also problematic.

Recent research conducted by Age UK has shown that 270,000 falls were caused by the poor vision of a person over the age of 60 in the past two years.

This further highlights the importance of removing small objects that could possibly cause an elderly homeowner to tumble and severely hurt themselves.
