Northumberland County Council has expanded its commercial cleaning provision across the whole county.
The latest street sweeping and cleaning programmes have been launched in south-east Northumberland as part of a drive to clean litter hotspots every day.
The latest initiative comes after sweeping routes were implemented in the northern and western parts of Northumberland with large mechanical sweepers used for village areas and town centres.
Officials say the new routes being implemented are more cost effective and have a greater level of flexibility to adapt to the demands of different parts of the county.
Councillor Ian Lindley, executive member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We take the environmental quality of our beautiful county very seriously and are continually looking for improvements in our processes and practices to help to keep the streets clean and tidy and reduce litter and environmental crime.”
He added that the council continually listens to feedback from residents, local businesses and environmental groups to ensure that it designs services to meet local needs.
Andy Rutherford, head of neighbourhood services for the council , pointed out that the council plans to use its resources much more efficiently as part of the new contract cleaning initiative.
