A spate of graffiti and vandalism of public property across Oxford is causing concern for local authorities.
According to the Oxford Times, spray can vandals are costing the city up to £100 a year on Contract Cleaning costs and causing a nuisance for local residents.
Local police are working together with the council to catch the perpetrators of the crimes and bring them to justice.
Police are especially trying to find one particular culprit who has left the so-called tag “SOAK” in foot-high lettering across West Oxford and in other parts of the city centre. The graffiti has been spotted at Oxford ice rink and on fencing at Osney Lock.
Another culprit using the moniker BNS has vandalised four other areas across the city, much to the dismay of residents.
Susanna Pressel, Labour city councillor for Jericho and Osney, told the paper: “This graffiti artist needs to be stopped and I have been talking to police about the problem.
“This has been going on for months but SOAK’s activities seem to have really increased in recent weeks. It will definitely cost thousands of pounds to clear up the SOAK graffiti and he is not the only one leaving his mark.”
