Using green methods to clean business premises may not be more expensive overall, one expert has claimed.
This is the view expressed by John Schafer of Staples Facility Solutions on website Green-buildings.com, who suggested Commercial Cleaning in a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly way could also result in lower costs for companies.
He was responding to a question from a reader called Margaret, who was interested in finding out what was the average cost of cleaning a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rated building per square foot.
Mr Schafer noted that “most people feel that green cleaning and sustainability in general cost more”, but added LEED and cleaning companies offering eco-services examine lifetime costs.
Office cleaning in this field, he suggested, takes the expense of disposing as well as purchasing items into consideration and calculates whether products last longer.
In this case, the specialist stated: “I would argue that the overall total cost would be less than a traditionally cleaned building.”
The LEED Gold standard is a rating that is applied to buildings based on a series of green design categories, including water efficiency, atmosphere, energy and materials.
