Swathes of UK households could benefit from hiring the services of cleaning companies, as a study showed that Britons are hoarding huge amounts of clutter.
The research conducted by LV= has indicated that 47.5 million cubic metres of junk is being stored by homeowners across the country – enough to fill Wembley Stadium 11 times.
One off spring cleaning could be required by many people, particularly parents whose children have now moved away from their childhood abode.
The survey noted that £2.4 billion worth of clutter is left at their mum and dad’s house by adults who have since relocated, while more than one million Britons have books, sports equipment and clothes tucked away in external storage units.
Around 62 per cent of respondents claimed to keep the unused items in case they need them in the future.
Managing director of home insurance at LV= John O’ Roarke said: “Our advice to householders storing these often valuable belongings is to talk to your insurer and ensure you have adequate insurance in place.”
Another person who may require some domestic cleaning help is the German teenager who saw 1,600 uninvited guests turn up to her birthday party in Hamburg.
