As householders start to commence their annual Spring Cleaning duties, they should not forget about their household appliances, an expert has said.
Kirby Hills, owner of At Your Service Appliance Repair, stressed that every year, he sees hundreds of faulty appliances that have broken down due to a build-up of dust and gunk, which owners have neglected to clean.
Speaking to the New York Times, he urged householders to make sure that they factor their household appliances into their spring cleaning regimen in order to keep their devices in good working order and in a presentable condition.
Mr Hills explained that the unlike spring cleaning the whole house, cleaning appliances does not take very long and can be completed in a matter of minutes.
Frequently used appliances such as dishwashers should be focused on especially because they can be prone to food and grease build-ups, which can block the water spray.
After removing the racks, householders are advised to closely inspect the corners in their dishwasher and gasket around the door for cracks and other debris. Then, they should thoroughly clean the dishwasher with a sponge and plastic bristle brush.
A plastic bristle brush is preferable to metal alternatives, as the latter can cause damage to the internal workings of the dishwasher and possibly impair its functionality.
