Dangerous or inappropriate flooring is a major contributor to injury statistics, according to research by the National Floor Safety Institute.
The research shows that accidental trips and falls are the leading cause of non-fatal emergencies treated in hospitals. The National Floor Safety Institute believes that many such injuries could be prevented if businesses paid more attention to their Hard Floor Cleaning.
In a business setting, slips and trips can lead to expensive compensation claims. With dust and dirt on flooring increasing the hazards, it may be prudent to employ commercial cleaners to ensure that risks are minimised.
Byrne & Co solicitors said: “Accidents may be caused by the floor being uneven, unsafe flooring used or if it is in a poor state of repair.”
Alternative options can include the use of carpets or vinyl flooring, which have a higher slip distance and a softer surface if falls do occur. Again, commercial cleaning is important to maintain a hygienic business environment.
The Texas-based National Floor Safety Institute was founded in 1997. It is a not-for-profit organisation with a stated mission to help prevent slips, trips-and-falls through education, research, and standards development.
