Domestic cleaners have been advised to make use of a fairly cheap and unorthodox method of cleaning their toilets – Alka-Seltzer tablets.
Columnist Tiffany Gee Lewis maintained that simply dropping an Alka-Seltzer tablet into the loo will deal with all the unsightly marks lurking within.
Writing in the Mormon Times, she said after the tablet has done its job, all house cleaners need to do is scrub in order to get their toilets gleaming.
Ms Lewis also outlined other cheap and eco-friendly substances that can be used for domestic cleaning, such as using baking soda, which is a good non-abrasive cleaner and helps shine white porcelain or a Formica countertop.
Combining baking soda with vinegar can result in an even more effective cleaning solution, she said, adding that lemon can be used to neutralise the odour of the vinegar.
“If you don’t like the lingering smell of vinegar when you clean (although it disappears quickly), you can rub everything down with lemon when you’re finished,” Ms Lewis explained.
“Lemon is great for refreshing drains, as is vinegar followed by hot water,” she added.
House cleaners can also consider using tomato ketchup to clean stains on metals such as copper.
